The 2nd Amendment needs to be updated for modern times interpretation.The language used when the Bill Of Rights was implemented in 1791 has created a lot of confusion to both the courts as well as the American people throughout the years.And sadly,the debate about it has only divided people as to whether gun ownership is a right or not.
Currently,there are 3 interpretations of the 2nd Amendment and they are the following:
1.The first interpretation is that the right to bear arms did not apply to individuals but to the right of a state to arm its militia/military.
2.The second interpretation is that the right to bear arms is a limited individual right that could only be exercised by members of a functioning, organized state militia/military
3.The third interpretation is that the right to bear arms is the RIGHT of EVERY INDIVIDUAL in the country.
The said interpretations have been used by courts in different states and by the Supreme Court as well whenever the issue of gun control or gun ownership becomes a legal matter.
It is about time that the people in-charge at Washington finally take responsibility and give clarity as to what is the CORRECT and ONLY interpretation to the 2nd Amendment especially when the issue becomes a legal matter.Should there be gun control?Should gun ownership be allowed?Too bad that this issue has divided not only Liberals,Conservatives and Libertarians BUT also people who lack clear understanding like Piers Morgan about what the amendment is really all about – which is more of a RIGHT OF A PERSON TO SELF-DEFENSE AND INDIVIDUAL PROTECTION rather than GUN OWNERSHIP.It is about time to put politics aside and allow the necessary right the each and every individual in the country that has been accorded by the Constitution.
Finally,one should realize that a gun should be considered a tool that could be dealt with responsibly and that could be learned or mastered for both self-defense and protection INSTEAD of a thing that needs to be avoided at all cost for it is just a weapon used to kill other people.Besides,the constitution have given the individual necessary rights that includes self-defense and protection not only from other individuals but from the government as well. There is no reason to deprive any American of it.
