There are many reasons to be opposed to the VAWA– domestic violence should not be an issue handed by the federal government. There is no real proof that it has prevented domestic violence and it promotes ugly stereotypes about men and women. Radical feminists portray men as violent predators and women as helpless victims– shame on them. About 40 percent of victims of domestic violence are men.
The VAWA Law has remained a failure since its implementation as it only empowers feminist structures rather than helping women on the side of domestic violence that gives credence to Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s finding that a lot of men are the victims of domestic violence. The law simply provides the wrong impression that all men are predators and all women are victims when in fact both are guilty of initiating domestic violence. Also, the Department of Justice has claimed that it has done nothing to lower domestic violence since its implementation as it was reported that 25 percent of women will experience rape or attempted rape by an acquaintance during their college years and yet that less than 5 percent of these rapes will be reported. Aside from that, the department stated that the VAWA currently administers 21 programs that, together, create a bureaucratic nightmare. Worse of all, it never justified the cost the taxpayers’ money – a reason why the country is in a close to a $17 Trillion Dollar-debt – as it never yielded the desired results at all.
